Clay Making

After making a paper light sculpture for my latest project, I was inspired by Korean artist Jin Young Lu and her transparent sculptures with expressive masks. The main theme of this piece will be the underestimation of potential aptitude. I will make a pair of wings coming out of a human figure curling himself up to show the vulnerability and fear of the figure. The wings will be made by Kato Polyclay Translucent to indicate the potential flying ability of the human figure which he does not realise it.

The figure needs a skeleton before putting clay on it, so learning about anatomy and structure of bones are necessary. An instagrammer, edizkan, makes tons of tutorial video and drawings on creating a human figure from different angels and gestures. I have created my figure in the ratio and shape I expected to be, and beard the same idea on creating the structure of the pair of wings. The preparation of this project is huge but also really important which one wrong step may cost the whole piece to be a failure. By watching Michael Zajkov, a sculptor's doll-making video, I have a good sense of several details to caution while making my figure.
